BJP flays Himachal govt for delay in releasing Rs 30 crores for Central University building

Dharamshala: The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh was accused of failing to cough up Rs 30 crores for the proposed Central University building in Jadrangal. The accusation was levelled by state BJP general secretary Trilok Kapoor here on Thursday.

Kapoor, while underlining Dharamshala’s pivotal role in politics, told media persons here that the government’s indecision is causing a delay in mobilizing funds for the proposed university building.

Kapoor asserted that the Union government had already disbursed Rs 250 crores for the Central University project. In contrast, the state government has not fulfilled its commitment to contribute Rs 30 crores. An unacceptable delay, said Kapoor.

“The issue of the Central University has gained significant traction among the public, and if the state government fails to release the funds promptly, the BJP is prepared to initiate a massive protest,” warned Kapoor.

Kapoor criticized Congress legislators from Kangra, alleging their failure to advocate for the release of funds for the Central University. He argued that Kangra had been subjected to discrimination, with the Congress government displaying bias in its treatment of the region.

A memorandum has been sent to the Chief Minister through the district administration, drawing attention to the urgency of releasing the promised funds for the Central University project. Kapoor urged the government to prioritize the educational infrastructure development and criticized the lack of coordination between the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and other ministers.

The press conference was attended by former minister Sarveen Chaudhary and ex-legislator Arun Mehra Kooka, who added their voices to the growing chorus of discontent over the government’s handling of the Central University funding issue.
