The peaceful hunger strike launched by Akil Bakshi at the Nurpur hospital premises, demanding the immediate opening of the long-awaited Mother & Child Hospital, entered its second day today.
Bakshi expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received on the first day, noting that residents continued to visit late into the night to extend solidarity. On the second day as well, a steady stream of people gathered at the site, voicing their demand for the hospital’s early inauguration.
Calling the issue a public cause rather than an individual demand, Bakshi urged the government to act swiftly, emphasizing that timely operation of the hospital would directly benefit residents across nearly five assembly constituencies. He highlighted that women and children, in particular, would gain access to better healthcare locally, reducing the need to travel long distances.
Reiterating his commitment to a peaceful and democratic protest, Bakshi clarified that the hunger strike aims to draw the administration’s attention without causing inconvenience. He appealed to the public to continue supporting the movement in a calm and constructive manner.
