Himachal Pradesh weather update: Sundernagar sees unusual 20 degrees difference in day and night temperature, 18 degrees in Bhuntar

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh is experiencing unusual temperature fluctuations, with day temperatures soaring above normal while night temperatures plummet to near-freezing levels. Clear skies and abundant sunshine have contributed to the rise in daytime temperatures across the state.
In Sundernagar, the day temperature was recorded at 21.3 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature dropped to 0.4 degrees. Similarly, Bhuntar recorded a daytime high of 18.5 degrees, with the night temperature plunging to minus 0.4 degrees Celsius. This stark difference between day and night temperatures is becoming a common trend.
The state’s capital Shimla along with Dharamshala and Sundernagar is experiencing maximum temperatures 3.9 degrees above normal. Bhuntar recorded a rise of 2.8 degrees above normal, Kalpa 5.6 degrees and Kangra 5.3 degrees above the average. The maximum temperature in Shimla stood at 14.8 degrees Celsius, 18.5 degrees in Bhuntar, 11.5 degrees in Kalpa and 21.3 degrees in Kangra.
In the tribal areas, Kukumseri recorded a temperature of 9.6 degrees Celsius, Reckongpeo 14.4 degrees and Samdho 9.5 degrees Celsius.
Despite the warmer days, the nights are bitterly cold, with temperatures approaching zero in many places. Minimum temperatures were recorded at 0.4 degrees in Sundernagar, 0.2 degrees in Mandi, 1.4 degrees in Una, 1.5 degrees in Solan and 1.2 degrees in Narkanda. Shimla recorded a minimum of 4.1 degrees, Dharamshala 5.2 degrees, Kangra 4 degrees and Chamba 2.9 degrees. The tribal areas faced even harsher conditions, with Kukumseri at -8.3 degrees, Samdho at -6.2 degrees and Kalpa at -1 degrees. The weather department has predicted rain and snowfall in some areas of the state on January 10, offering potential relief from the unusual temperature patterns.
