The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a direct attack on the Congress‑led Himachal Pradesh government over the alleged stent scam at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda.
BJP state spokesperson Sanjay Sharma accused the government of maintaining “criminal silence” on a matter that directly affects patients’ lives and finances. He alleged that stents worth around ₹14,000 were being sold to patients for ₹40,000, and that firms disqualified in tenders were given supply contracts through backdoor arrangements. “Whose patronage allowed this? Why has the government not given a clear answer yet?” Sharma asked.
Key Allegations Raised by BJP:
- Corruption ignored: Despite evidence of irregularities in tender processes, unauthorized storage, and overcharging, no strict FIR has been registered against the main culprits or responsible officials.
- Shielding officials: Sharma alleged that the government is trying to protect senior figures involved in the scam.
- Superficial probe: He criticized the formation of a committee as an attempt to bury the issue, warning that evidence may be suppressed.
- Call for resignation: With over 40,000 patients visiting Tanda’s cardiology department annually, Sharma demanded that the Health Minister take responsibility and resign immediately.
Sanjay Sharma declared that the BJP will not allow the government to evade accountability. He warned that if FIRs are not registered and strict action is not taken within a fixed timeframe, the BJP will take the fight to the streets in the interest of the people.
