Demonstrating vigilance and swift action, the CIA team of Police District Nurpur uncovered illegal timber transportation during routine naka checking near Riyali Bridge early this morning.
Acting on information, officers from Fatehpur Police Station and Re Police Post joined the operation and stopped several suspicious vehicles for inspection.
The joint team found six pickup trucks and one canter loaded with timber of various species and firewood. When asked to produce valid permits, licenses, or transport documents, the drivers failed to provide any.
Subsequently, three FIRs (Nos. 66/2026, 67/2026, and 68/2026) were registered at Fatehpur Police Station under Section 303(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 41 & 42 of the Indian Forest Act. All seven vehicles and the timber have been seized for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Police confirmed that the Forest Department will be consulted to verify the source, ownership, and legality of the timber.
Superintendent of Police, Nurpur, reiterated the district police’s commitment to curbing illegal forest cutting, timber smuggling, and other unlawful activities, assuring that such operations will continue. The public has been urged to immediately report any suspicious or illegal activity to the police.
