The raging forest fire that started near the Tara Devi hills has now spread dangerously close to the British-era graveyard, one of the city’s oldest colonial landmarks. Firefighting teams and forest officials are working round the clock to contain the blaze, which has already scorched large patches of pine forest.

Dense smoke has enveloped nearby residential areas, prompting authorities to issue an advisory urging residents to stay indoors and avoid trekking routes around the cemetery zone.

Officials fear that if winds intensify, the fire could damage the historic tombstones and surrounding heritage structures dating back to the 19th century.

The Forest Department and Shimla Municipal Corporation have deployed additional water tankers and fire tenders to prevent further spread.
