In a major boost to the sporting landscape of Himachal Pradesh, ten athletes from the state have been selected to represent India at the upcoming 7th Asian Savate Championship in Nepal. The achievement marks a significant milestone for martial arts in the hill state, highlighting its growing presence on the international stage.
The championship, scheduled to be held from April 29 to May 3 at Kathmandu University, will feature top competitors from across Asia in the discipline of Savate, also known as French kickboxing.
Strong Representation from Himachal
The athletes have been selected through the Savate Association Himachal Pradesh, reflecting the rising standards of training and participation in the sport within the state. The simultaneous selection of ten players for the national team is being seen as a landmark achievement for Himachal’s martial arts ecosystem.
Leadership Roles Add to Pride
Adding further distinction to the state’s representation, Ms. Rekha has been appointed as the Captain of the Indian Women’s Savate Team, underlining her leadership and performance credentials.
In another notable development, Santoshi Sharma, General Secretary of the state association, has been named the Coach of the Indian Women’s Team, reinforcing Himachal’s growing influence not just among athletes but also in coaching leadership at the national level.
Confidence High Ahead of Championship
Madan Lal, President of the state association, congratulated the selected athletes, coach, and officials, expressing confidence that the team will deliver a strong performance. He stated that the selection reflects the dedication and hard work of players and trainers alike, and expressed hope that the contingent will return with medals, bringing laurels to both the country and Himachal Pradesh.
The upcoming championship is expected to provide a crucial international platform for the athletes to test their skills against some of the best in Asia, further elevating India’s standing in the sport.
