For 31 children growing up in child care institutions across Mandi district, this week brought more than just travel—it brought a rare chance to see the world beyond the hills, to learn, to dream, and to believe in new possibilities.
Under the Chief Minister’s Sukh-Aashray Scheme, children from care homes in Sundernagar, Talayad, Bhangrotu and Dehar completed a memorable educational and experiential tour to Jaipur and Delhi from February 10 to 14.
The journey was designed not only as an excursion, but as an opportunity for children from Mandi’s child welfare institutions to experience India’s cultural heritage, scientific progress, and national landmarks—many for the very first time.
The trip began on an emotional high, as several children boarded an aircraft for the first time in their lives. The experience of flying sparked excitement and confidence, leaving many children amazed at how far their world could expand.
In Jaipur, the children explored the grandeur of the Amer Fort, where history came alive through towering walls and royal architecture. Visits to Jantar Mantar and the planetarium added a scientific dimension to the tour, introducing them to astronomy and the mysteries of the solar system.
The journey from Jaipur to Delhi aboard the Vande Bharat Express became another highlight, offering the children a glimpse into modern India’s changing landscape.
In the national capital, the group paid tribute at India Gate, reflecting on the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes. Their visit to the National Science Museum further opened doors to innovation and technology, encouraging curiosity and ambition.
District Programme Officer Ajay Badrel said the Sukh-Aashray Scheme is aimed at ensuring that children in care are not limited by circumstances, but are supported with opportunities that strengthen their confidence and personality development.
He added that such educational tours help children from Mandi’s child care institutions imagine a brighter future and motivate them to work towards it.
For these young travellers, the tour was not just a journey across cities—it was a journey towards self-belief, learning, and new dreams taking flight.
