An unusual and rare sighting has been reported from Jagatsukh village near Manali in Himachal Pradesh, located at an altitude of over 6,000 feet. The village is currently blanketed in snow, yet a pair of peacocks has been spotted moving through the snow-covered forest, drawing widespread attention and concern.

Peacocks are typically found in warmer and lower-altitude regions. Their presence in a high-altitude, snowbound area has surprised wildlife experts and meteorologists alike, raising questions about possible changes in habitat patterns linked to climate change and environmental stress.

Locals Express Surprise

Balak Ram Sharma (52), a resident of Jagatsukh village, said,
“I was completely shocked. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw two peacocks walking in the snow in our forest.”

Some villagers mentioned that the peacock pair had been noticed in the forest area during last summer as well, though sightings were rare at that time.

Experts Monitor the Situation

Wildlife conservationists have expressed concern over the unusual movement of the species, noting that such behavior may indicate shifting ecological conditions. While no immediate conclusions have been drawn, experts emphasize the need for close monitoring to understand whether changing weather patterns and habitat disruptions are forcing wildlife to adapt in unexpected ways.

Meanwhile, a section of local residents is viewing the incident with apprehension, linking the rare sighting to traditional beliefs and possible ominous signs. Authorities, however, have urged people not to indulge in speculation and to rely on scientific assessment.

The incident has once again highlighted the fragile balance of Himalayan ecosystems and the growing need for sustained conservation efforts amid changing climatic conditions.
