MLA Neeraj Nayar has termed the Union Budget 2026–27 as being against the interests of Himachal Pradesh, stating that the expectations of the state’s common people, farmers, orchardists and youth have been completely ignored.
He said that the budget has done injustice to Himachal Pradesh and that the special geographical and economic conditions of hill states have been entirely overlooked. Nayar pointed out that over the past few years, the state has suffered losses worth thousands of crores due to severe natural disasters such as heavy rainfall, landslides, and floods, yet no special provision has been made in the budget for disaster-affected regions.
The MLA further stated that the budget also fails to provide any concrete support to hill states in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
Expressing serious concern, Neeraj Nayar said that the discontinuation of revenue deficit grants by the central government is highly alarming. He emphasized that such grants were crucial for a small state like Himachal Pradesh with limited resources. Ending this support would further weaken the state’s financial position and adversely affect development works.
He urged the central government to reconsider the budget provisions and provide Himachal Pradesh with fair and just budgetary support in accordance with its actual needs and constitutional rights.
