DHARAMSHALA: In a significant announcement on the concluding day of the winter session of the Assembly in Dharamshala, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the Himachal Pradesh government would provide employment opportunities to 20,000 youth in the government sector before March 31, 2024.
The move signals a shift away from outsourcing practices, with the government prioritising the hiring of youth based on their experience.
Responding to discussions under Rule 130 regarding the removal of outsourced employees incapable of securing government jobs, corruption investigations in recruitment processes, and the reinstatement of offices, the Chief Minister assured that the government is planning to safeguard the employment of outsourced workers in the government sector.
Addressing concerns about the recent paper leak in recruitment processes, the Chief Minister highlighted swift action, including the dissolution of the commission involved and the formation of a new commission. The Sanan Committee’s recommendations led to the approval of key positions such as chief administrator, administrative officer, joint controller of finance and law officer. Approval has also been granted to conduct a pilot written examination for 162 operation theatre assistant posts, with further processes set to conclude soon.
Emphasising the merit-based adjustment of Covid warriors, the Chief Minister clarified the government’s commitment to creating job opportunities, citing the launch of a Rs 680 crore startup scheme. This initiative has already seen 800 youth applying for e-vehicles. Denying claims of promising one lakh government jobs, the Chief Minister clarified that the focus has always been on generating five lakh job opportunities.
Regarding complaints against the Staff Selection Commission, the Chief Minister revealed that 34 complaint letters led to 11 FIRs and 34 arrests. Nine complaints were closed due to lack of evidence. This disclosure underscores the government’s commitment to addressing corruption and ensuring transparency in recruitment processes.
Congress MLA Chandrashekhar emphasised the need for a permanent employment policy in the state, acknowledging the severity of the unemployment issue. He commended the government’s efforts, citing the exposure of a significant scam in the Subordinate Selection Board. Despite challenges, the government remains resolute in its commitment to rapid progress and addressing the pending results of 30 tests.
