Shimla:
In a powerful endorsement of the government school system, two young women educated entirely in public institutions have emerged as standout achievers in the Himachal Pradesh Administrative and Allied Services examinations, underscoring how determination and discipline can triumph over limited resources.

Megha Singh Kanwar from the Haati region of Sirmaur district topped the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services (HPAS) examination, securing the first rank. Alongside her, Aanchal Ghunta from Nerwa subdivision in Shimla district stood second and has been selected for the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), making it a moment of pride for government school alumni across the state.

Government schools lay foundation of success

A resident of Khaniyud village in the Giripar-Pajhota belt, Megha is the daughter of Narendra Kanwar and Anita Kanwar. She completed her primary education at a government school in Shaya Sanaura, passed Class XII from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Nahan, and later graduated from Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni.

By topping HPAS purely on merit, she has highlighted the strength of public education in nurturing talent from remote regions.

Similarly, Aanchal Ghunta, hailing from Ghuntari village of Garha panchayat in Nerwa tehsil, studied up to Class XII at Shaheed Shyam Singh Government Senior Secondary School. She went on to complete a BSc degree from Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry. At present, she is serving as an excise inspector at Kandaghat, having earlier cleared the allied services examination.

Clearing top exams through self-study and grit

Both achievers prepared largely through self-study, balancing household responsibilities with long hours of disciplined preparation. Their journeys reflect persistence rather than privilege and coaching-free preparation rooted in strong academic fundamentals built in government schools.

Reacting to her success, Megha said that hard work and consistency were the key to cracking the exam. She added that serving people with honesty and dedication would remain her priority. Aanchal echoed similar sentiments, stating that unwavering effort and faith in one’s abilities helped her overcome challenges during preparation.
