DHARAMSHALA: The Kangra Central Cooperative Bank has a huge NPA of Rs 1,103 crore while its working capital is Rs 16,274.98 crore. The issue of the bank’s NPA was raised in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha on the third day of the winter session in Dharamshala on Thursday (December 21, 2023).
Congress MLA from Sujanpur Rajendra Rana raised a question related to the bank’s NPA (non-performing assets) in the House.
Rana raised questions on the functioning of the bank saying the huge NPA was a matter of concern. “To take a loan, equivalent security (collateral) is kept in the bank and if someone is not returning the loan, then the collateral kept in lieu of it is attached. Then how come the NPA turned so huge,” he asked.
On this, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government would ensure that the RBI guidelines were followed while giving loans from the bank. The CM said that the NPA of the bank was currently Rs 1,103 crore. He also told the House that the NPA amount in March 2023 had touched Rs 1,147.90 crore, following which it declined by Rs 44.70 crore.
The House was told that the working capital of the bank till March 31, 2023, was Rs 16,274.98 crore, while from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023, the bank made a gross profit of Rs 171.41 crore, which includes a net profit of Rs 47.77 crore, which is Rs 40.35 crore higher compared to the previous financial year.
