Shimla:

In a sharp escalation of political confrontation in Himachal Pradesh, BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal has criticised the ruling Congress government for staging a dharna outside the Vidhan Sabha during the ongoing Assembly session, calling it an “unprecedented and constitutionally questionable act”.

Dr Bindal said it was for the first time in the political history of the state that the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, cabinet ministers and ruling party MLAs abandoned an Assembly session convened by their own government to sit in protest.

Calling the move “deeply unfortunate for democratic traditions”, he said the ruling party’s protest within the Assembly complex — complete with placards and sloganeering —demonstrated “the collapse of administrative order” under the Congress government.

Says government has admitted its failure

The BJP leader alleged that by taking to the streets, the government had “admitted that it has failed to run the state”. He said the mandate given by the people in 2022 had been “betrayed” and the state had been pushed into economic and administrative bankruptcy over the past three years.

Bindal claimed that thousands of senior citizens were forced to protest for their rights while the government itself was busy shouting slogans. “If those in power are also on the streets, then they have no moral right to stay in power,” he said.

Accusing the government of mismanagement, he cited what he called Rs 45,000 crore of new debt, appointment of “over 50 chairmen and vice-chairmen”, and “protection of mafias” as examples of alleged administrative chaos.

Sharp attack on Congress over ideology, governance

Escalating his criticism, Dr Bindal accused the Congress of resorting to personal and ideological attacks to distract from governance failures. He alleged that after “abusing the BJP for three years”, the ruling party had now shifted to “targeting the RSS”.

He charged the Congress with “historical blunders” — from mishandling national security to encouraging illegal immigration — and said the party’s “anti-national rhetoric” had now been exposed.

“The Congress has insulted Ram temple supporters, nationalist revolutionaries and now devotes its energies to abusing those who have served the nation in difficult times,” Bindal said, adding that the public was “well aware of the Congress’s character”.

Tying the state developments to national politics, Bindal claimed that after the party’s “big defeat in Bihar”, the Himachal government was now venting its frustration through street protests.
