A written reply presented in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly to Starred Question No. 3531 asked by MLA Rakesh Jamwal, Sundernagar has clarified widespread concerns regarding the status of “private schools” in the state. The government confirmed that no school has been derecognized by the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board. However, 292 institutions had their affiliations temporarily withheld due to incomplete formalities.
All Withheld Affiliations Now Cleared
The Education Department stated that the withholding of affiliation was purely procedural. All concerned institutions have since completed the required documentation, and the Board has restored their affiliation status.
Move Toward CBSE Alignment for 100 Govt Schools
In a significant development, the government confirmed that around 100 senior secondary government schools are undergoing the process of being affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The selection of these schools is based on the feedback from Himachal School Education Board, parents, and various educational bodies who reportedly favored CBSE’s broader exposure, updated curriculum, and the perceived competitive edge it offers.
