SHIMLA: Even as the Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government is counting its achievements during its first year in rule, the opposition BJP is attacking the Congress regime, calling its one-year rule “sheer failure”.
Himachal BJP media in-charge Randhir Sharma said that the government had taken “12 anti-people decisions in its 12 months of regime” and by celebrating the occasion, the government had allegedly rubbed salt on the wounds of the people who were shaken by the recent rain disaster.
Randhir Sharma alleged that the Sukhu government did not take even a single public interest decision in a year and on the contrary, institutions were closed, VAT on petrol was increased, electricity became expensive, which has led to exodus of industries.
“Outsourced employees were thrown out of jobs. By increasing the tax on commercial vehicles entering Himachal from outside the state, it broke the back of the tourism business. By not making provision in the budget for schemes like Sahara, Himcare, the work has been done to end them. MLAs did not get a single installment of the MLA fund and the increase in stamp duty put financial burden on the public,” he alleged.
Randhir Sharma said women in Himachal Pradesh have been waiting for promised Rs 1,500 grant for a year while the employees are waiting for DA. He highlighted the government’s “failure” to provide relief to those affected by rain disaster and emphasised that the landless were still awaiting land allocation.
The government, he claimed, misused significant funds and resources for the celebration, which went unnoticed by both the public and their leaders.
Randhir expressed dismay over Chief Minister Sukhu’s continual lamentations about a financial crisis throughout the year. He questioned the necessity of appointing Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS) in the face of financial constraints. The substantial expenditure on celebrations, he argued, contradicted the claim of a financial crunch, suggesting that the cry of financial crisis is a public facade while considerable funds are spent on favored acquaintances. Furthermore, he announced that the BJP would actively oppose the government’s “anti-people” policies.
