Palampur – On the occasion of Independence Day, the newly constructed statue of India’s first Param Vir Chakra awardee, Shaheed Major Somnath Sharma, was formally unveiled on Friday in the premises of the Palampur Municipal Corporation by MLA Ashish Butail and former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar. On the occasion, they offered floral tributes at the statue to pay homage.
Shaheed Major Somnath Sharma’s niece, Radhika Shaunik, was also present.
The program was attended by Wool Federation Board of Directors member Trilok Chand, Palampur Mayor Gopal Nag, Deputy Mayor Rajkumar, council members, SDM Palampur Netra Meti Municipal Commissioner Dr. Ashish Sharma, Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, Block Development Officer Bhanu Pratap Singh, father of Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Dr. N.K. Kalia, his brother Vaibhav Kalia, along with officials from various departments and prominent citizens.
