In a significant development in the suspicious *death case of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted surprise raids at two properties belonging to suspended Himachal Pradesh ASI Pankaj.


The raids took place in Shimla’s Kaithu area and Dangar in Ghumarwin, following crucial leads uncovered during Pankaj’s interrogation.


Pankaj, currently in CBI custody, is under scrutiny for his alleged role in tampering with digital evidence after Vimal Negi’s untimely and controversial death. Sources said the CBI seized multiple documents during the searches, which are now being examined as part of the agency’s broader investigation strategy.

According to officials, Pankaj reportedly accessed Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Chief Engineer Vimal Negi’s laptop and pen drive after his death and allegedly deleted critical data.


Investigators believe that these files could hold key information regarding Negi’s mental state, recent communications and possibly sensitive information linked to corporate or departmental matters.


The CBI is analysing CCTV footage, call records and other digital trails to determine whether Vimal Negi’s death was a suicide or a premeditated murder. Investigators are working to reconstruct the timeline and track the digital footprint left behind. More than 90 persons, including several Power Corporation employees, have been questioned so far.

Based on Pankaj’s testimony, the CBI is learnt to be planning to turn three Power Corporation employees into witnesses, indicating a possible wider conspiracy.


The agency is preparing to file a status report in the Himachal Pradesh High Court soon, shedding more light on the nature of Vimal Negi’s death and those potentially complicit in covering up the truth.


The case, which initially appeared to be a straightforward suicide, could now evolve into a high-stakes investigation possibly involving foul play, data suppression and institutional complicity, as per analysts following the investigation closely.
