The Himachal Pradesh women’s kabaddi team put up a grand show at the 38th National Games in Dehradun, defeating Rajasthan decisively to secure a spot in the final for the third consecutive time.
The team is now just one step away from clinching another gold medal as they prepare to face Haryana in the final on Sunday.
In the semi-final clash held on Saturday afternoon, Himachal dominated the game with an impressive score of 38-20 against Rajasthan. Captain Pushpa Rana, along with key players Jyoti Thakur, Sakshi Sharma and Bhawna, led the team with exceptional skill and determination, ensuring a comprehensive victory.
All praise for team’s outstanding performance
Coach Gopal Dasta and Himachal Kabaddi Association vice-president Kuldeep Rana praised the team’s outstanding performance.
“Our girls have played exceptionally well and are now just one step away from becoming national champions again. The team has remained unbeaten so far, which has boosted their confidence and we are hopeful they will bring home the gold,” said Dasta.
This final will mark the second time Himachal and Haryana face off in the kabaddi championship match. In the 37th National Games held in Goa in 2023, Himachal triumphed over Haryana with a score of 32-23 to secure the gold medal.
Himachal beat Haryana by a decisive margin in 2023
Himachal’s golden journey began in 2022 when they claimed their first kabaddi gold at the 36th National Games in Gujarat, defeating Maharashtra 27-22. With two consecutive gold medals already in their record, the team now stands on the brink of a historic third victory.
Adding to Himachal’s medal tally, Madhu and Divya Rana secured bronze medals in wushu. Madhu earned her bronze in the 70 kg Sanda event, while Divya clinched her medal in the Taolu (Qianshu) category, as confirmed by Wushu Association Secretary PN Azad.
