Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress vice-president Arjun Thakur has asked the Dharampur administration in Mandi to take concrete steps for the removal of encroachments.
Thakur also extended his gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for elevating Dharampur to nagar panchayat status, which was formally notified and approved during a cabinet meeting last year.
Though the local administration has already started issuing eviction notices to residents occupying government land illegally, Thakur, an advocate by profession, has warned against any delays in the process. He said he would approach the Himachal Pradesh High Court to ensure “justice was served” and if any “undue concessions were granted to politically connected people”.
The Congress leader pointed out that more than half of Dharampur’s population had encroached upon government land, an issue the Congress government was determined to address. He urged the administration to take impartial and decisive steps to remove encroachments, ensuring that Dharampur was transformed into a well-planned and sustainable nagar panchayat.
He said any negligence or political interference in this process would not be tolerated as the government was committed to maintaining the integrity of public land.
