Mandhol village under Jubbal tehsil of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh witnessed a significant environmental initiative as over 1,000 deodar trees were planted in a collaborative effort to promote environmental conservation.
Organised by Yuva Mandal-Mandhol, Mahila Mandal-Jouta, Indira Fellowship Club, Devta Nageshwar Temple Committee and Nepali Cricket Club, the event saw enthusiastic participation from more than 100 villagers.
Held in the village’s forest area, the plantation drive was not only an act of environmental stewardship but also a testament to community unity. The Forest Department supplied the saplings, while Yuva Mandal-Mandhol managed the logistical arrangements, including food and other essentials.
The event involved active contributions from all sections of the community, including women, youth and various social organisations.
The initiative aimed to address pressing environmental challenges like climate change, air pollution and soil erosion while providing habitat for wildlife. Deodar trees, renowned for their ecological significance, were selected for their ability to improve air quality and support biodiversity in the region.
Yuva Mandal-Mandhol, recognised for its social contributions, played a pivotal role in the event’s success. Their efforts were bolstered by Mahila Mandal-Jouta, whose members actively participated in planting and organising the drive.
“We are committed to preserving our environment for future generations. This plantation drive is just the beginning,” said a spokesperson from Yuva Mandal-Mandhol. “We hope to inspire others to take similar steps in their local communities.”
This event marks a milestone in Mandhol village’s environmental journey, with plans to make the plantation drive an annual tradition. Organisers aim to scale up the initiative in the coming years by involving participants from neighbouring areas.
