Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh visited the Shimla Meteorological Centre on Friday (January 17, 2025) to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
During his visit, Jitendra Singh inspected various sections, including the Forecasting and Observation divisions, and reviewed their functioning.
Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the Shimla Meteorological Centre, presented an overview of the department’s historical journey, current status, recent achievements and ongoing activities in Himachal Pradesh.
The minister also interacted with the Centre’s officials and staff, offering guidance and discussing operational challenges and advancements.
Addressing the media, Jitendra Singh highlighted the significance of meteorological information for the public and emphasised the department’s role in forecasting, climate change mitigation and disaster management.
He outlined future plans to enhance meteorological services in Himachal Pradesh and ensure the timely dissemination of weather-related updates to the public. He stressed the importance of leveraging cutting-edge technology and collaborative approaches to support India’s socio-economic development amid changing climatic conditions.
