Himachal weather: Yellow, orange cold wave alerts issued across 8 districts for 3 days

Shimla: After three days of continuous rain and snowfall, Himachal Pradesh is set to experience further cold wave as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued cold wave alerts for several districts across the state.
The recent weather, however, has brought smiles to tourists, farmers and orchardists alike. The IMD has predicted clear weather for the next five days across most parts of Himachal Pradesh.
However, light rain and snowfall are expected in the higher reaches of the state between January 1 and 3. Despite the anticipated sunshine, a significant drop in temperatures is expected, accompanied by freezing conditions in some areas.

Yellow, orange alerts issued

A yellow alert for cold wave conditions has been issued for December 29 in the eight districts of Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, Kangra, Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur.
An orange alert for a more severe cold wave has been issued on December 30-31 in seven districts, with intensified chilling winds and fog expected in the plains.
The IMD has warned that minimum temperatures could drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in the next three to four days, while daytime temperatures may see a slight increase due to sunny conditions.

38 cm snow in Kinnaur’s Sangla

The recent spell of snowfall brought significant accumulation in many regions, delighting tourists and boosting agricultural prospects. Key snowfall measurements include: Sangla (Kinnaur) 38.5 cm, Koksar (Lahaul-Spiti) 36 cm, Gondla (Lahaul-Spiti) 32.5 cm, Kalpa (Kinnaur) 23, Narkanda (Shimla) 22 cm and Keylong (Lahaul-Spiti) 21 cm.

Advice for residents and tourists

The IMD has urged residents and tourists to stay warm and take necessary precautions during the cold wave.
Authorities have also been advised to ensure adequate supplies of essentials in high-altitude areas prone to harsh conditions.
