It was a narrow escape for the passengers of a private bus that met with an accident on the Raja Ka Talab-Jawali road in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Monday.
The bus was en route from Sansarpur Terrace to Jawali when it went out of control near a beer factory in Samlana, ultimately veering off the road and crashing into a nullah. The accident left 10 persons, including the driver, injured. The bus belonged to private carrier Thakur Roadways.
Local residents quickly gathered at the accident site and pulled the passengers out of the bus. The injured were transported by ambulance to the Civil Hospital at Jawali for immediate medical treatment. The police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, but the exact cause remains under investigation. However, preliminary reports suggested that a malfunction, potentially a locked steering, may have led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
Nurpur Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratan confirmed the incident and said inquest proceedings were underway.
The accident comes a day after another mishap in the region where four women were injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Bhadwar near Nurpur. Five youths were killed in a car accident in Mandi two days ago.
