Palampur-born Sunita John, principal of prestigious Shimla Auckland House School for 25 years, passes away at PGI

Chandigarh/Palampur: Sunita John, an esteemed educationist and the former Principal of Auckland House School in Shimla, passed away at PGI-Chandigarh where she was undergoing treatment for a spine ailment.
Born on November 2, 1959, in Palampur, Sunita John dedicated nearly four decades to the prestigious institution, leaving a lasting legacy of academic excellence and holistic development.

Sunita John’s association with Auckland House School began in 1985 as a teacher, and her dedication saw her rise to the post of Principal on December 7, 1998. She became the Director Principal in 2012 and later took on the role of Director on December 1, 2023.

Her tenure marked a period of tremendous growth for the institution, including the founding of Auckland House School for Boys in 2008, which she led alongside her husband Michael A. John, the school’s founding principal.

Sunita John also served as an office-bearer for the Diocesan Education Association of the Diocese of Amritsar, Church of North India, contributing significantly to educational initiatives across the region. She is survived by her husband Michael, son Reuben T. John (Principal of Auckland House School for Boys), daughter Swati Cheryl John, daughter-in-law Chriselle Fernandes and grandson Ezra Michael John.

The Auckland House School Society and the Diocese of Amritsar have expressed profound sorrow, offering condolences to the family in this time of loss. “This is an irreparable loss to the Auckland House School Society and the Diocese,” read the statement from the Board of Governors and the Diocesan family, commemorating Sunita John’s exceptional service to education and her enduring impact on generations of students.
