SPU’s AI Robotics Club launches innovative solutions for students, residents

MANDI: Residents and students in Mandi city can now find rental rooms more efficiently than ever, thanks to a groundbreaking initiative from the AI Robotics Club at Sardar Patel University (SPU). By simply scanning a QR code, users can access information about available rooms and directly contact property owners, eliminating the need to wander around the city in search of accommodation.

The new QR code system aims to simplify the rental process in Mandi. Once scanned, the code provides instant information about rental rooms, including the landlord’s contact details, allowing individuals to negotiate rental terms conveniently. This innovative solution is set to ease the housing search for students, teachers and other residents in the area.

Enhances access to healthcare too

In addition to improving room rentals, the AI Robotics Club has launched a project to enhance access to healthcare. The “Find Way” initiative aims to facilitate easier navigation to doctors at Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College in Ner Chowk.

Previously, patients faced difficulties and delays when trying to locate medical professionals within the college. Now, with this initiative, individuals can quickly find their way to the doctor’s office, ensuring timely medical assistance.

Addressing public transportation challenges, the club has also introduced the “On-Time Routes” project. QR codes will be installed at bus stands throughout the city, providing commuters with real-time bus schedules. This feature is designed to reduce waiting times and improve the overall public transport experience.

Additionally, users will have the option to book pick-up trucks for moving goods and private taxis for travel, with all vehicle owner contact information accessible via the project website.

Empowering Students with Book Hub

Further enhancing the university experience, the AI Robotics Club has unveiled the “Book Hub” project. This platform allows students to buy and sell their textbooks after exams, promoting sustainability and affordability. By scanning a QR code, students can engage in transactions that benefit those who may struggle to purchase new books. This initiative is particularly beneficial for students looking to save money on educational materials.

The AI Robotics Club’s projects mark the university’s first startup programme of this nature. To ensure its success, the club will collaborate with incubation centres at IIT-Mandi and the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, to guide students in the realms of artificial intelligence, robotics, and modern technology.

Professor Lalit Kumar Awasthi, Vice-Chancellor of SPU, emphasised the significance of these initiatives, stating that they will greatly benefit the community in the future. Professor Rajesh Kumar Sharma echoed these sentiments, highlighting the positive impact these projects will have on students and residents alike.
