Shimla: In a significant development, the Sanjauli mosque committee has received the green light from the Waqf Board to proceed with the demolition of three unauthorised floors of the mosque.
The committee has committed to covering the costs of the demolition, which follows a Municipal Corporation (MC) court order issued on October 5 that mandated the demolition of the illegal structure.
This decision comes in the wake of escalating tensions and public protests surrounding the mosque’s construction in Sanjauli and other parts of Himachal Pradesh. On September 11, a large gathering of individuals from the majority community demonstrated against the illegal construction, expressing their concerns about adherence to local building regulations and zoning laws.

The protests highlighted growing communal sensitivities in the region and put immense pressure on local authorities to respond swiftly.
