The Great Khali in Shimla today for paragliding flying festival, prizes worth lakhs up for grabs

Renowned wrestler and former WWE superstar The Great Khali reached Shimla on Friday (October 18, 2024) to grace the occasion as the chief guest at the second edition of the Shimla Flying Festival & Hospitality Expo 2024, being held at The Gidge Inn in Junga, near Shimla.

By roping in Khali, the organisers are expected to draw a massive crowd of fans, adding a surge of excitement to the already vibrant event, said Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh.

The Shimla Flying Festival, being held from October 16 to 19, has already garnered significant attention with over 40 pilots showcasing their talent in a thrilling Paragliding Accuracy Competition on Day 2. Spectators have been captivated by the precision and skill displayed in this unique competition, which tests the pilots’ ability to land accurately in Shimla’s challenging terrains.

The event also includes a Hospitality Expo, featuring over 40 exhibition stalls. These stalls represent a diverse array of products and services, with 20 stalls dedicated to startups in sectors such as food, dairy, handicrafts, handloom, furniture and travel consultancy. The combination of entrepreneurial energy and creative displays has created a dynamic atmosphere, attracting tourists and locals alike.

Besides The Great Khali, Anirudh Singh, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, will join the event, adding further significance to the day’s festivities.

Event organiser Arun Rawat urged people to attend and enjoy this celebration of adventure sports, entrepreneurship and community spirit. “The Great Khali’s participation will elevate the excitement and bring more people to witness this grand event,” he said.

Minister Anirudh Singh emphasised the importance of the Paragliding Spot Landing Championship, which is the highlight of the festival. Pilots from across India will compete in individual and team categories, demonstrating their landing skills.

The festival will offer individual championship prizes of Rs 2.25 lakh for first place, Rs 1.25 lakh for second and Rs 75,000 for third. Team prizes include Rs 50,000 for first place, Rs 35,000 for second and Rs 20,000 for third.
