Mother accuses his in-laws of torture

KULLU/MANDI: The body of Manish Sharma, an employee of the Language and Culture Department at the Kullu district headquarters, was discovered hanging from a tree in Lag Valley’s Bhumitar area.
Manish had been missing for the last 10 days and despite his family’s desperate efforts to find him, his whereabouts had remained unknown until now.

Family’s desperate search for Manish

Manish went missing on October 1, leaving his family in distress as they searched every possible place. His father, Gayatri Datt Sharma, shared that despite filing a missing person report with the local police and searching extensively, they had not been able to find any leads. The family had even met Kullu Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan Gokul Chandran on Thursday to present a memorandum, urging a more thorough investigation, including an analysis of Manish’s phone records.

Body spotted by locals first

On receiving information from locals, the police rushed to the scene on Saturday where they found Manish’s body hanging from a tree. The discovery brought a tragic end to the family’s search. The police are conducting further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, after which it will be handed over to the family for the final rites.

On Thursday, at the SP office, Manish’s father along with his relatives revealed that they had not received any information about their son for the past 10 days, despite their continuous efforts to locate him. A missing person complaint has also been filed by the Kullu police. Manish, a resident of Aut, situated on the border of Kullu and Mandi, reportedly received a phone call while on duty at his office on October 1, after which he left and never returned.

Allegations of torture against in-laws

Manish’s mother Lalita has leveled serious accusations against his in-laws, alleging that they subjected him to physical and emotional abuse and barred him from visiting his family. Manish had been living with his wife in a separate government quarter. His sudden disappearance has raised questions about what might have transpired between the couple. Lalita shared that last time Manish visited home was on September 27, during which he remained unusually quiet. She accused his wife of preventing him from meeting his parents.

Manish’s brother Gopal also dismissed any possibility of depression, instead pointing to ongoing harassment by Manish’s in-laws. According to him, Manish had been estranged from his parents for six months.
