SHIMLA: The weather in Himachal Pradesh is set to take a wintry turn on Wednesday (October 9, 2024), particularly in isolated parts of high-altitude districts.
According to the Meteorological Department, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Mandi, Kangra, Kullu and Shimla may experience rain and snowfall. The peaks in Lahaul-Spiti already saw light snowfall on Tuesday, making travel beyond Darcha on the Manali-Leh road dangerous. Caution is advised for those planning to venture into higher altitudes.
In contrast, the plains and low-lying areas of the state are expected to remain clear, with no significant weather disturbances forecast for Wednesday.
Clear weather expected from October 10
By Thursday (October 10), the entire state is predicted to experience clearer sky as the western disturbance is expected to weaken. This system, currently observed as a cyclonic circulation over Afghanistan, will have minimal impact, allowing Himachal Pradesh to return to dry and sunny conditions for the days ahead.

On Tuesday, Shimla remained cloudy with occasional drizzle, while most of the plains enjoyed sunshine. The state witnessed a mix of weather, attributed to the relatively weak influence of the western disturbance.
Temperature expected to dip further
Wednesday is expected to see dip in temperatures in the higher reaches, particularly after the forecasted rain and snowfall. Keylong, Kalpa and Kukumseri recorded as low as 5.1°C on Monday night. Warmer conditions will persist in the lower districts like Una, Bilaspur and Kangra.
