Himachal minister tells actor to give proof or be ready to face defamation

Shimla: A political storm has erupted in Himachal Pradesh following a scathing attack by Mandi BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut allegation that the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government was paying money to former party president Sonia Gandhi after collecting it from people.

Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Congress state president Pratibha Singh and former minister Kaul Singh Thakur launched a fierce counter-offensive, questioning Kangana Ranaut’s level of education and dismissing her allegations as baseless.

Speaking at a press conference in Shimla, Vikramaditya said, “Kangana is not very educated. That is why she keeps making such statements repeatedly.” His remarks were echoed by Kaul Singh Thakur, who claimed, “Kangana talks like an illiterate person. Her comments are not worth taking seriously.”

Pratibha Singh, expressing her disappointment, remarked, “It is unfortunate to make such allegations without facts and basis. From this, one can guess what their mentality is.”

The controversy erupted after Kangana Ranaut in Manali on Sunday where she accused the state government of channeling funds from the Centre and loans into the personal coffers of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. Her statements have sparked outrage among Congress leaders, who are now challenging Kangana Ranaut to substantiate her claims.

Vikramaditya issued an open challenge to Ranaut, saying, “Kangana should prove it. If she does not provide proof of this, she should be prepared for defamation charges for tarnishing Sonia Gandhi’s image. Her statement shows her mental bankruptcy and there can be no statement more foolish than this.”

Vikramaditya also took a swipe at Kangana Ranaut’s limited appearances in Himachal Pradesh, alleging that her recent visit was prompted by the censor board’s ban on her latest film. “These days, the censor board has banned her film, so she has come here to mourn it. She is making absurd statements at her home,” he said, adding that the BJP should also take strict cognisance of her remarks.

Kaul Singh Thakur further criticised Ranaut for her absence from the state, particularly during times of crisis. “She has been missing since winning the election. She visited for just one day even during the disaster. She should fulfill the promises made during the election instead of making reckless statements,” Thakur said.
