Kullu Regional Hospital introduces QR code system for faster OPD slips

Kullu Regional Hospital

MANDI: The Regional Hospital at Kullu in Himachal Pradesh has introduced a new system for generating OPD slips through the scan and share technology under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The initiative is aimed at improving the efficiency of hospital services by reducing waiting time at the OPD counters.

ABHA app required for new service

To access this service, patients will need to download the ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) app on their smartphones. The app enables users to generate OPD slips simply by scanning a QR code available at the hospital.

Speaking at the launch, hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Naresh said, “We conducted a successful trial of the ABHA system on September 13, 2024. The service is now live and available to the general public. Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is set to revolutionise the patient registration process at the hospital.”

Successful trial and public launch

The successful testing of the ABHA app was conducted last week during which OPD slips were generated seamlessly through the system. Dr Naresh stated that patients who use the ABHA app for generating their OPD slips through the scan and share technology will be given priority at the OPD counter.

How to use the scan and share system

Patients must download the ABHA app, which will allow them to scan the QR code provided at the hospital’s OPD registration counter. Once scanned, the patient’s demographic details are automatically sent to the data entry operator stationed at the counter.

After scanning, a token number will be generated in the app. Patients need to provide this token number to the data entry operator and mention which OPD slip they require. The system is designed to generate the slip instantly, cutting the waiting time to a mere 20-30 seconds.

Faster service for ABHA users

This new system is expected to streamline the process and benefit patients by reducing the usual registration time. As per government guidelines, all patients using the ABHA app for registration will be prioritised at the OPD counter, ensuring quicker access to medical services.

The introduction of this technology is in line with the Government of India’s vision to digitise healthcare and improve the overall patient experience in public hospitals across the country.
