Flashflood hits Udaipur in Himachal, vehicles remain stranded for entire night

A severe flashflood hit the Udaipur sub-division of Lahaul-Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday night following heavy rains, leading to the closure of the Udaipur-Tandi state highway near Madhgram Nala.

The downpour, which began around 3 am on Sunday, caused a powerful flood in Madhgram Nala, depositing heavy debris on the state highway. This sudden obstruction left a large number of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) quickly mobilised their machinery to the site.

After approximately eight hours of intense work, the road was cleared and reopened for all types of vehicles by 11.30 am on Monday.

The BRO’s prompt response ensured the removal of all stranded vehicles, restoring normalcy to the affected area.

The incident marks the onset of pre-monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh, with monsoon rains expected to commence on June 27.

The first pre-monsoon rains have already begun to cause significant disruptions in the region, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and preparedness as the monsoon season approaches.
