Renowned wrestler and former WWE superstar, The Great Khali, took a jab at the Himachal Pradesh government on Friday (October 18, 2024) over the delayed payment of salaries and pensions to employees for September.
Speaking to the media at the Shimla Flying Festival at Junga, near Shimla, Khali, whose real name is Dalip Singh Rana, responded to a query about whether he would open a wrestling training institute in Shimla.
Born in Dhiraina village in Sirmaur district of Himachal, The Great Khali expressed his interest in establishing an institute in Shimla if a suitable location was found. However, when a journalist asked whether he would seek assistance from the Himachal government, the wrestler sarcastically remarked that the government was facing a financial crunch and struggling to pay salaries on time.

The Great Khali is in Shimla to grace the occasion as the chief guest at the second edition of the Shimla Flying Festival & Hospitality Expo-2024, being held at The Gidge Inn in Junga.
By roping in Khali, the organisers expect to draw a massive crowd of fans, adding a surge of excitement to the already vibrant event.
Himachal Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh was also at the even, though it couldn’t be confirmed whether he was present when Khali took a swipe at the government. The Himachal government, which is allegedly facing a financial crisis and is under a debt of over Rs 80,000 crore, for the first time in the state’s history failed to pay salaries and pensions of employees on the first day of the month in September 2024. The payments were cleared
on September 10. In October, the salaries were paid on the fifth day and the pensions on 10th.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, however, has time and again denied any financial crisis in Himachal saying the delayed payments were part of a financial prudence strategy to save the state’s money.
