US Capitol Police officers sue Trump, allies over Jan 6 riots
Seven US Capitol Police officers have filed a lawsuit against ex-President Donald Trump, his allies and members of far-right extremist groups, accusing them of being directly responsible for the January 6 riots. The lawsuit alleged Trump “worked with white supremacists, violent extremist groups, and campaign supporters to…commit acts of domestic terrorism in an unlawful effort to stay in power”.
ISIS claims responsibility for blasts that killed over 70 outside Kabul airport
The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the blasts that killed at least 60 civilians and around 13 US troops outside Kabul airport. General Frank McKenzie, head of US Central Command, said US commanders were on alert for more attacks by Islamic State, including possible rockets or vehicle-borne bombs targeting the airport.
Ethiopia rights commission says 150 killed in attack in Oromia
Gunmen killed at least 150 people last week in western Ethiopia, the state-appointed Ethiopian Human Rights Commission said on Thursday, in what it described as an attack by an armed group on civilians. The gunmen were reportedly from the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), a splinter group of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), a formerly banned opposition group.
Putin-critic Navalny compares Russian prison to Chinese labour camp
In his first interview from jail, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s critic Alexey Navalny has compared Russian prisons to Chinese labour camps. He said inmates have to mandatorily watch state television propaganda films for over eight hours every day. “You need to imagine something like…Chinese labour camp, where everybody marches in…line & where video cameras are hung everywhere,” he added.
