Taliban warns US to remove Haqqani leaders from blacklist

After US expressed concern over the blacklisted status of many members of Taliban’s newly formed government, Taliban warned the US to remove Haqqani leaders from its blacklist. Taliban said the US is instigating them to take an action. Haqqani Network’s Sirajuddin Haqqani, who carries a reward of $10 million bounty on his head, has been inducted into Afghanistan’s new Cabinet.

Al-Qaeda could regenerate in Afghanistan after US exit: US Defence Secretary

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said the Al-Qaeda extremist group may attempt to regenerate in Afghanistan following an American withdrawal that has left Taliban in power. Austin said, “We put…Taliban on notice that we expect them to not allow that to happen.” He added the US is prepared to prevent an Al-Qaeda comeback in Afghanistan that would threaten the US.

The trial of 20 men accused of coordinated attacks on Paris in 2015 has opened in France. During the hearing, Salah Abdeslam, the key defendant, declared his profession to be a “fighter for Islamic State”. He complained about mistreatment in prison, saying, “We should be treated like [humans]…We’re not dogs.” The attacks on November 13, 2015, left 130 dead in Paris.

WHO chief urges halt to booster COVID-19 shots for rest of the year

The WHO has extended its call for a moratorium on COVID-19 booster vaccine doses until year-end. “I’ll not stay silent when companies and countries that control the global supply of vaccines think the world’s poor should be satisfied with leftovers,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. The WHO previously urged world leaders to hold off on booster doses until September-end.

Trump says he would knockout Biden ‘very quickly’ in a boxing match

A video in which former US President Donald Trump says that he’d knock out current President Joe Biden “very quickly” in a boxing match has gone viral. Trump said this after he was asked, “If you had to box anybody, who would you pick?” “I’d take a pass on the professional boxers, that can be a very dangerous subject,” Trump said.
