The illnesses associated with the 9/11 attack have caused more deaths than the attack itself, the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund said. The fund received 3,900 claims on behalf of someone who’s alleged to have died of 9/11-related illnesses, including cancer. Nearly 3,000 people were killed when Al-Qaeda hijackers flew planes into New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Pakistan suggests inviting Taliban-run Afghanistan to regional forum
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has suggested inviting the Taliban-run Afghanistan to a regional forum of six countries to help avert a humanitarian and economic crisis in the country. He suggested this during a virtual meeting attended by foreign ministers of China, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The Taliban announced its government in Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Protest breaks out against Bitcoin adoption in El Salvador
People of El Salvador took to the streets to protest the adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender. Protestors burned a tire, set off fireworks in front of the Supreme Court building. “This is a currency that’s not going to work for…vendors…or shopkeepers…It’s a currency that’s ideal for big investors who want to speculate with their economic resources,” a protestor said.

As a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico on Tuesday, videos showing flashes of light in the night sky went viral on social media. The videos showed that the sky was lit up by bright purple, green and blue hues known as ‘earthquake lights’. The earthquake had hit 17.7 km northeast of Acapulco.Â
China announces aid worth ₹228 crore to Taliban a day after it formed Afghan govt
A day after Taliban announced its interim government in Afghanistan, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China would provide 200-million-yuan (₹228 crore) worth of grain, winter supplies, vaccines and medicine to Afghanistan. He added that China had already decided to donate an initial batch of 3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to the Afghan people.
