Buildings shook in Mexico, sending people running into the streets as a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck southwest of the country near the resort city of Acapulco. The ground shook for nearly a minute in some parts of Mexico City. Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said there were no immediate reports of serious damage in the capital.

Afghanistan is facing a collapse of basic services and “food…other lifesaving aid is about to run out”, UN humanitarian agency OCHA said. Millions of Afghans are in need of food aid and health assistance, OCHA spokesperson Jens Laerke said. The agency has appealed for about $600 million to meet humanitarian needs for 11 million Afghans for the remainder of the year.

A Japanese woman who was deceived into relocating to North Korea in the 1960s has sued the country. “We had been told we were going to paradise on Earth, that we would have our own apartment and jobs,” the 80-year-old escapee said. “Everything we had been told was a lie. I… wondered how we would be able to…survive,” she added.
PhD not valuable; see mullahs are greatest without degrees: Taliban Education Minister
Taliban’s Minister of Education, Sheikh Molavi Noorullah Munir, has said, “No PhD degree, Master’s degree is valuable today. You see that the mullahs and Taliban [leaders] that are in the power, have no PhD, MA or even a high school degree, but are the greatest of all.” The Taliban on Tuesday announced an interim government led by Mullah Hassan Akhund.
