Goods worth lakhs burnt to ashes

The forest corporation’s office located in Khaliyar ward of Mandi city was reduced to ashes in a fire that took place at around 9.15 am on Wednesday.
The fire was spotted by the in-charge of the wood depot office, Ram Singh, when he reached the office in the morning with his colleagues.
Smoke from the adjoining room gave rise to suspicions, following which the fire brigade was informed.
Although the office staff managed to salvage some belongings and office material, the fire spread rapidly to other areas of the four-room office building, almost razing the entire building.
Records destroyed Ram Singh said that records and other items kept in the office were burnt to ashes.
Wood and acid kept in the store too were destroyed. The police have initiated a probe into the fire by registering a case.
A short circuit is believed to be the reason behind the fire which destroyed the 40-year-old forest department building.
