HAMIRPUR/SHIMLA: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Hamirpur, the home district of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, where a woman’s face was allegedly blackened, her hair was cut and she was paraded in the village on Friday (September 15, 2023).
The incident occurred in Bhoranj Assembly constituency of the district. Though the police are yet to provide details about the incident, four persons have been arrested after the registration of an FIR.
The trigger behind the crime is not known yet, but it is being alleged that the victim’s in-laws suspected her of being of loose character and having an extramarital affair.Instead of saving the woman when the incident occurred, the locals recorded a video of the act on their mobile phones.
Some locals even supported the in-laws in the incident, it is alleged.The incident has sent shockwaves across the state. A police official said a thorough investigation would be conducted into the incident.Public outrage and concern for the victim’s dignity and safety have been expressed widely on social media with women outfits demanding swift action against the culprits.
The incident is expected to snowfall into a political controversy with the monsoon session of the Himachal Vidhan Sabha scheduled to start next Monday.
