The three independent MLAs who have resigned from their membership of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly have been directed to appear before Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Wednesday (April 10, 2024).
MLAs Hoshyar Singh (Dehra), KL Thakur (Nalagarh) and Ashish Sharma (Hamirpur) were told to be present in the Assembly committee room at 12.15 pm and then at 2.30 pm. Related notices were issued to the MLAs by the Speaker.
Doubts behind motive of resignation
The notices mentioned that if the Independent MLAs didn’t present their side, it will be assumed that they do not want to give any argument in their favour. Himachal Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan and Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi have expressed doubts about the resignations, alleging that these could have been tendered under pressure.
The Independent MLAs had maintained that they had resigned voluntarily, and that their resignations were “not being accepted deliberately”. Hoshyar Singh and Ashish Sharma confirmed to have received the notice from the Assembly Secretariat.
Submitted resigned on March 22
The trio had resigned from the membership of the Assembly on March 22, a day before they joined the BJP in Delhi. The MLAs first submitted their resignation letters to the Assembly Secretary. After this, they met the Governor. The trio then personally met Speaker Kuldeep Pathania and submitted their resignation letters to him too. After voting in favour of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections in February, all the three Independent MLAs have been vocal against the government.
