Who’s the ‘dog’ in Facebook message reposted by Cong ex-minister Asha Kumari?

Asha Kumari

Dharamshala/Dalhousie: A senior Congress leader, Asha Kumari, who has represented the party and government at the highest levels, created a stir late Monday night with a cryptic social media post: “Jab sher ke paon me kanta chub jae to iska matlab ye nahi ki ab kutte raj karenge” (when a thorn pricks a lion’s paw, it doesn’t mean that dogs will start ruling).

The post quickly went viral, prompting widespread speculation and debate across political circles in Himachal Pradesh. When contacted by The Newz Radar, Asha Kumari clarified that the post was not aimed at anyone in particular.

“It wasn’t directed at anyone specific. Those who feel guilty are interpreting it that way,” she said over the phone on Tuesday. She further explained, “I came across this post on social media, where it was originally meant for the BJP, so I simply reposted it.”

Despite Asha Kumari’s clarification, the ambiguity surrounding her post has fueled speculation, with many taking screenshots and circulating it widely. The post has been perceived by some as a sign of internal strife within the Congress party, an assertion that Kumari denies.

Adding to the intrigue, a day before Kumari’s post, senior Congress Cabinet Minister Chander Kumar publicly opposed a tourism village project on the land belonging to Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University in Palampur. Some have linked the timing of the two events as evidence of growing discord within the party.

As of the time of this report, Asha Kumari’s post had received over 200 reactions and nearly 100 comments, further amplifying its viral reach and fueling speculation about the intended target of her remarks. The message was originally posted by one Pratibha Singh, the namesake of Himachal Pradesh Congress president and the wife of six-term late Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.

The post has come at a time when the government in Himachal Pradesh, led by first-time Congress Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has been facing its worst-ever financial crisis, with salaries and pensions facing an unprecedented delay.
