Brett Coomer/Staff photographerAs a longstanding federal holiday, most Americans will have a three-day weekend and a break from their regular Monday routine in recognition of Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is intended to celebrate and honor people who have died while serving in the U.S. military and in observance of it, many companies and organizations will be closed for the day. However, as with other federal holidays, the country won’t shut down entirely. Since many people choose to travel during their time off, hundreds of thousands of people still are required to work, particularly in service industries.
Here’s your Houston area guide to which businesses are to remain open, and which will be closed for the holiday.
