The war museum in Dharamshala would be opened for visitors this year. A model of the Atal tunnel would also be displayed in the museum.
Foundation laid in 2014
The foundation of the war museum was laid on February 11, 2014, and it was inaugurated on August 9, 2017, by the then Chief Minister.
The House was informed on Monday by hydel power minister Mahendra Singh Thakur that work was still in progress at the museum but it would be opened for visitors this year.
Rs 10 crore spent so far
The minister told the House that Rs 11.02 crore was sanctioned for the museum in two installments. In the first phase, Rs 9.87 crore was sanctioned and in the second phase, Rs 1.15 crore was sanctioned. Out of this Rs 10.26 crore has been spent.
Museum’s USP
Separate enclosures have been created for Army, Navy and Air Force in this three-storey museum. Army’s Gorkha, Punjab, Grenadier, J&K Rifle, Mechanised, Armed, Dogra regimental enclosures would be there.
33 prototypes of weapons would be displayed and models of personnel operating these weapons would also be on display.
Statues of field marshals and air marshals and other displays related to Navy and Air Force would be there.
