Visually Impaired Protests Outside State Secretariat, Demand Government Action

The Newz Radar

Shimla : For the past 23 days, visually impaired individuals have been staging a sit-in protest outside the DC office in Shimla, pressing their demands. Despite their prolonged demonstration, the government has yet to address their grievances. Frustrated by the lack of response, protesters including the state secretary of the National Federation of the Blind, Devachandra Negi, marched to the state secretariat on Thursday. The ensuing traffic jam compelled police officials, led by SP Shimla Sanjeev Gandhi, to intervene and facilitate discussions between the protesters’ representatives and government authorities.

Negi emphasized that the visually impaired community has been consistently demonstrating for 23 days, yet their demands have not received the government’s attention. He specified their key demands, including clearing the backlog of visually impaired appointments by December 31, granting a 35-year relaxation in educational qualifications, and providing government jobs to visually impaired individuals based on compassionate grounds. Negi stated that the protest will continue until their demands are met.
