Visually impaired protest near Secretariat as CM Sukhu holds cabinet meeting inside, police use mild force

Visually impaired protest

A protest was staged by members of the Visually Impaired Union near the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat in Shimla on Tuesday morning, demanding the fulfillment of long-pending recruitment backlogs. The protesters blocked the road from 11 am to 11.30 am, bringing traffic to a halt while chanting slogans against the government for failing to meet their demands.

The protest caused significant disruption, with traffic coming to a standstill in the area. The police eventually intervened, using mild force to disperse the protesters and move them to the side of the road, allowing traffic to resume. Despite the police action, the members of the Visually Impaired Union remained resolute in voicing their grievances.

The union is frustrated over the government’s repeated promises to address their concerns, particularly regarding the recruitment backlog, which has yet to be resolved. They claimed that despite multiple assurances, no concrete action had been taken.

The protest occurred just before the start of the cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, with protesters shouting slogans aimed at drawing attention to their cause.
