DHARAMSHALA: As the Himachal Pradesh Congress marks the completion of its one year in power, an ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) post from a verified account having around 50,000 followers has set political circles abuzz.
The post alleges that a handful of Rajya Sabha MPs of the Congress are poised to defect to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) this Wednesday (December 13, 2023). It also speculated of a potential split within the Himachal Pradesh Congress.
“Himachal already ready to break,” quoted the post, which also said five Congress Rajya Sabha MPs, including a prominent leader from Kerala, would join the BJP soon. “This is being discussed in various circles of Delhi,” it further said.
The post, made from the account of one Himanshu Jain on Sunday night, has already garnered over 6,000 views and sparked around 100 comments within a short span.
The development assumes significance, particularly in light of the recent statements made by Himachal Congress president Pratibha Singh, which hinted at underlying tensions between the party organisation and the government.
The apparent discord within the Congress ranks is further underscored by visible rifts among party leaders. The delay in appointing chairpersons and vice-chairpersons, coupled with lingering vacancies in the cabinet, adds credence to the speculations surrounding a possible fracture within the party.
Observers note that the timing of the tweet aligns with the ongoing internal dynamics of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, where the struggle for control and influence has been simmering. The departure of five Congress Rajya Sabha MPs to rival BJP, if proven true, could also deal a significant blow to the Himachal Congress and reshape the state’s political landscape.
As the tweet gains traction and public attention, political analysts are closely monitoring developments to discern whether the hinted split within the Himachal Pradesh Congress would materialise. The coming days are poised to offer a clearer picture of the internal dynamics and the potential ramifications for the ruling party in the state.
Time and again, questions are being raised about the stability of the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, and with the public eagerly awaiting further details, all eyes were on the unfolding political drama in the hill state.
