Predicts long-term decline for grand old party in Himachal
MANDI: Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan has launched a scathing attack on both the Congress and the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Himachal Pradesh government, accusing them of gross mismanagement and failure to meet public expectations.
Mahajan was addressing the media in Nahan where he attended the Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti celebrations as the chief guest. He pointed out that the BJP had secured a third consecutive term in Haryana and stated that the Congress was facing a similar bleak situation across other states.
Congress in ‘complete state of disarray’
Referring to the Congress government’s situation in Himachal Pradesh, Mahajan predicted a long-term decline in the party’s political fortunes. “This time, they managed to form the government, but the way things are going, forget about seeing a Congress government here for the next 15-20 years,” Mahajan remarked. He further claimed that the Congress’ condition is “pitiable” across the board, with widespread discontent among various segments of society, including farmers, businessmen, employees and the youth. According to Mahajan, this dissatisfaction is rooted in the government’s failure on multiple fronts.
‘Central support lifeline of Sukhu govt’
Mahajan criticised the Sukhu government for what he called “reverse progress”. He stated that for every step the government attempts to take forward, it takes three steps back. Pointing to the state’s financial and administrative mismanagement, Mahajan alleged that the Sukhu government had completely forgotten the guarantees it made before the elections and the opposite of what was promised is now unfolding.
He asserted that without financial assistance from the central government, the Sukhu administration would not be able to survive for even a minute. Mahajan also accused the Congress of trying to take credit for various grants provided by the Modi-led central government, but he stressed that the people of Himachal were well aware of the true source of this support.

Says might collapse under own weight
Mahajan predicted that the Congress government in Himachal would soon collapse under its own weight. “This government is in such disarray that it will likely crumble from its own mismanagement,” he said. He also claimed that several Congress leaders, including ministers, were in touch with him, expressing frustration over Chief Minister Sukhu’s leadership.
According to Mahajan, these leaders fee that “Sukhu does not listen to anyone and insists on making unilateral decisions, raising doubts about how long the government will survive”.
However, Mahajan stated that the BJP is careful not to disrupt its own cadre by actively pursuing these leaders. He predicted that “in the next elections, the Congress would be reduced to just four-five seats, with even the Chief Minister likely to lose his seat, while the
BJP would win at least 60 seats and form the government”.
Mahajan also expressed confidence that the BJP would secure a victory in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, similar to its success in Haryana. He reiterated his belief that the Congress was facing a steep decline across multiple states and used the opportunity to launch further criticism of the party on various national issues.
