Tuberculosis eradication campaign to focus on remote panchayats: DC

Dharamshala: Kangra district Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa emphasized the necessity of ensuring public participation up to the panchayat level for tuberculosis eradication, particularly in remote areas of Kangra district, to make the campaign successful.
Chairing a meeting of the District Tuberculosis Control Committee on Wednesday at the DC office auditorium, he directed the organization of meetings of tuberculosis forums formed in various medical blocks to ensure multi-sectoral participation in fulfilling the commitment to eliminate tuberculosis.
He stated that efforts are being made to make India tuberculosis-free by 2025, and Kangra district is committed to playing its role in achieving this goal. He highlighted the enhancement of diagnostic facilities for tuberculosis and the presence of 47 active tuberculosis diagnostic centers in the district.
The DC stressed the need to work on nine main points to end tuberculosis, including increasing the detection rate, strengthening tuberculosis identification from public and private sectors, and improving the tuberculosis prevention and treatment system.
Additionally, he emphasized working on reducing drug-resistant tuberculosis, creating strategies for community participation, promoting social corporate activities, and advancing the Tuberculosis-Free India campaign to reduce the economic burden caused by the disease.
Becoming a TB-Free India Campaigner:
District tuberculosis officer Dr Sood explained the process of registering as a Non-Tuberculous Companion (NTM) on the NTM portal, CommunitiesforTB.com. Upon registration, individuals receive a unique ID and can contact the district tuberculosis officer or medical officer to share a list of active tuberculosis patients who have agreed to receive community support. NTMs can then choose the type of support they wish to provide.
During the meeting, tuberculosis champions also shared their experiences. Chief Medical Officer Dr Sushil Sharma provided information on the steps being taken for tuberculosis eradication in the district. Health department officials, including Medical Superintendent Dr Gulery, were present at the meeting.
