Truck runs over 4 sleeping children in Kangra village; one dead, both legs of another amputated, 2 critically injured

In a tragic incident at the fair ground of Darh village, adjacent to Sri Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, a local truck driver ran over four sleeping children on Monday (July 2, 2024) night.

The accident resulted in the death of one child on the spot, the amputation of both legs of another and serious injuries to the remaining two. The driver, identified as Sonu, fled the scene after the incident.

According to information, the accident occurred around 10.30 pm when Sonu, a local driver, arrived at the fair ground with his truck. While reversing, he accidentally drove over the sleeping migrant children. At the time of the accident, the children’s parents were away, fetching food.

The children’s screams alerted nearby residents, including Pankaj Kumar and Sonu Kumar, who rushed to the ground. The injured children were rushed to Nagrota Bagwan hospital. Pankaj Kumar transported three of the injured children to the hospital in his car. Due to the severity of their injuries, two children were later referred to Tanda Medical College for further treatment.

Local police head Praveen Kumar informed the Palampur police about the incident. Palampur SHO Surinder Kumar confirmed that an FIR had been registered against the driver and an investigation was underway.
